Plan Tech hand casts all of its high-performance urethane roller wheels in high volume using various methods of casting. Our most standard practice for casting high volume urethane roller wheels with a tight tolerance is by over-molding the urethane roller and after the urethane material is fully cured then machining each wheel for a tolerance as tight as +/-.005”.
Most roller wheels will carry a lot of weight and will be either bonded to a bearing or consists of a metal core or “ rim “ that will take most of the weight that will be applied to the roller. Urethane is an ideal choice of material for urethane roller wheels due to being easily molded with little to no startup cost and having better physical properties vs rubber or plastic. Urethane will also absorb an impact and return to its original size even after years of abuse inside or in outdoor applications.
Plan Tech and also recoat worn out existing wheels with a variety of additives that can enhance different desired physical properties. Our most common additive would be an antistatic urethane additive for urethane roller wheels. By making the urethane rollers conductive will allow for to roll with less drag and will inhibit foreign materials sticking to the roller like dust. This additive will also help any reduce static build-up in robot wheels and other automated equipment for safe operation.
